In March/April 1994/1995 I took a group of 16-18 year olds from my 3d design course to Holland for an educational visit. As well as the Amsterdam museums we visited the Kroller Muller Museum In the Hoge Veluwe National Park in Oterloo.
Taking a break from the ‘on Sunday morning’ project I was searching through some old sketchbooks when I came across this.
The sketch is actually from a sketchbook I used the following year, but I haven’t yet uncovered the original drawing. I like to take myself away from groups when I get the opportunity, and the park sufficiently contained the students to allow me to do that. I found a quiet natural amphitheatre that was an ideal site for a sculpture.
After a day or two thinking and starting some maquette so i decided to draw, and came up with this, still in progress, that has some parallels with the ‘on Sunday morning’ work and is a good way to spend my holidays.
